Is It Safe To Self Tan Whilst Pregnant or Feeding?
Fake Tan, Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Many expectant and new mums wonder whether self tan is suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding. While there is currently no evidence to suggest that self tan is harmful when used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, we always recommend speaking with your midwife, GP or healthcare professional before use for personalised advice.
Self Tanning During Pregnancy
Pregnancy can bring lots of changes to your skin, including increased sensitivity and changes in how your skin reacts to products you've used before. For this reason, it's always a good idea to perform a patch test 48 hours before applying any self tan.
If you choose to continue self tanning during pregnancy, some women prefer to avoid applying product directly to the stomach area. If you experience any irritation or an unusual skin reaction, discontinue use and seek advice from your healthcare professional.
Self Tanning While Breastfeeding
If you're breastfeeding, we recommend avoiding application to the breast and nipple area to help minimise the risk of product transferring to your baby's skin during feeding.
As hormonal changes can affect the skin both during and after pregnancy, it's important to patch test before use, even if you've used the product previously without any issues.
Top Tip
Always apply self tan to clean, dry skin and follow the product instructions carefully. If you have any concerns about using self tan during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, consult your GP, midwife or healthcare professional before application.
With the right precautions, you can continue to enjoy a healthy-looking glow while prioritising the wellbeing of both you and your baby.
